Free Change Penalties - The Good Side of COVID-19

As we enter month six of the COVID-19 pandemic here it the United States, we can see how COVID-19 has effected every area of our life. But instead of focusing on the negative effects we at High Point are choosing to find the good, which yes can be hard to do at times but also fun.

We’ve seen shorter waits at doctor offices because many people are using Tele-Doc. Being able to get in and out of the DMV in 30 minutes instead of spending hours in line waiting. More grocery chains offering free curbside pick up or delivery. Less traffic on the highways for your morning commute. For the travel industry we are celebrating that at the end of August the Big Three, as we call them in the office, American Airlines, Delta Airlines and United Airlines all announced changes to their change fee policies moving forward.

Effective immediately all airlines are doing away with those pesky change fees, well at least for domestic flights. That means that if you are flying anywhere in the United States and need to change your flight for whatever reason you can do it with out a change penalty. All you will have to pay is the fare difference.

This puts the Big Three on the same playing field with Southwest when it comes to domestic flights. Now one can only hope that they will do away with the pesky baggage fees as well.

Now there are few restrictions with these waived change fees, but here is the basic policy for each airline.

AMERICAN AIRLINES

Changes fees will be eliminated if you are flying Main Cabin (excluding Basic Economy), Premium Economy, Business or First Class to the following destinations.

  • Any of the 50 U.S. States

  • Canada

  • Mexico

  • Caribbean

  • Puerto Rico

  • U.S Virgin Islands

DELTA AIRLINES

Changes fees will be eliminated if you are flying Main Cabin (excluding Basic Economy), Delta Comfort+, Delta Premium Select, domestic Delta One, or Delta’s First Class to the following destinations.

  • Any of the 50 U.S. States

  • Puerto Rico

  • U.S Virgin Islands

UNITED AIRLINES

Changes fees will be eliminated if you are flying Economy (excluding Basic Economy), Economy Plus, United First, United Business, or United Premium Plus to the following destinations.

  • Any of the 50 U.S. States

  • Caribbean

  • Mexico

Now with this flexibility you can feel more confident in booking your flights knowing that a pesky $200 change fee won’t exist should you need to change or cancel your flight, for whatever reason.

Got plans already to travel, but have been waiting to book because you weren’t 100% sure on if you could go or not, well let us know and we can get you a quote today.
